As you can see, "grasp" is a pretty interesting word. Firstly, it means "hold tightly", but it can also mean to understand something. Exactly, it means to fully understand something.
Can you see the connection between the two meanings? It's as if you "hold something tightly" in your mind, when you grasp it.
